It’s been almost a year since the world lost the outstanding musician and community leader. Still, the marathon will continue as fellow rappers will come together to honor Nipsey at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy announced on Tuesday.
The artists that will be featured in the tribute are YG, Roddy Ricch, Kirk Franklin, Meek Mill, John Legend, and DJ Khaled. “An activist, entrepreneur, and rapper, Nipsey Hussle had a lasting impact on not just his community, but also the culture at large. There is no denying the influence he had, and his legacy will be felt for generations to come. We are honored to bring together this amazing group of artists to celebrate Nipsey’s life and pay tribute to his many contributions to music. It’s sure to be a memorable performance,” said Grammy Awards executive producer Ken Ehrlich.
Hussle was fatally shot on March 31, 2019. Nipsey is nominated for best rap song and best rap performance for his track “Racks in the Middle,” as well as best rap/sung performance for “Higher” with #DJ Khaled and John Legend. The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hosted by Alicia Keys.
