John Legend Says Hollywood Should Consider Boycotting Anti-Abortion States, Says “Money Talks”

Amid outrage over the anti-abortion laws in Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama and other states, John Legend says “money talks” when it comes to fighting back against the restrictive laws against women.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Legend opened up about the new laws and called on Hollywood to boycott the states that have passed them. Although he admitted that the pressure may not be enough to make a difference, he maintained that the stopping production in the states, in question, is a conversation “that needs to be had.”
“I don’t know that it will definitely work, but I know that many talks,” Legend said. “There’s no way we can have equality in any other realm if women don’t have the ability to make these kinds of decisions not their own without the state getting involved.”
“The bottom line is we need to respect women and let women make their own decisions,” he continued.”
The conversation comes after a number of states introduced a variation of the “heartbeat” bill that would ban almost all abortions, including cases of rape and incest. While none of the bans have gone into effect, Georgia’s bill was signed into law on May 7, and is expected to go into effect in 2020, the publication reports.
